Setting: Dorhaven - a city a few days' travel inland from Calisport. Dorhaven is a sizeable city surrounded by a massive wall.
Maggie walked along the perimeter of Dorhaven, alone. Moths swirled around the street lights that cast shadows on the road. On one side, lamps glowed in small, quiet houses. On the other side, the wall passed by, one stone at a time. She looked up. It was too dark to even tell where the wall ended and the cloudy, starless night sky began. A breeze blew through her hair. The seasons were changing, becoming cooler.
Maggie reached out and ran her left hand over the stones as she walked. Not to feel the smooth stone on her fingertips - she had never had any on that side of her body, nor anything for them to attach to - but to hear the clicking and scratching of one man-made object on another.
She felt comfortable. The wall kept her and her city safe. The world outside the wall, if there was even one to speak of, was a dangerous, uninviting place. Or so they said. Nobody knew for certain. None of Dorfhaven's citizens had ever actually experienced it. But, of course, why else would there be such a strong, reliable wall?
